If your electricity comes from fossil-fuel powered plants then this 1800 watt LiFuJunDong parabolic dish solar cooker is jut the thing for you. It concentrates reflected sunlight into a single spot that reaches 700-1000° C (1300-1800° F). It takes a little effort to use because it needs to be focused every 10 minutes or so to compensate for the Earth's rotation.
On a summer's day the temperature inside a 2 quart kiln full of coffee grounds achieved a maximum temperature of 540° C (1000° F). The resulting charcoal was 75% carbon.
